Admissions Specialist
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A. Be the main point of contact for prospective students and families requesting information about HCC’s educational opportunities.
1. Hold office hours each week, either by appointment or taking walk-ins, to meet with prospective students and their families to assist with credit admissions process and program information related to letter, certificate or Associate degree programs.
2. Meet with walk-ins and take phone calls with prospective students who would benefit from basic information about non-credit certificate or licensure program options; make referrals to non-credit program managers
3. Respond to emails in the HCC Admissions email inbox and text messages from prospective students.
4. Plan and host information sessions and/or tours on campus for both individual and prospective groups; this includes information sessions for selective admissions programs.
5. Remain up to date on all program changes as well as changes to basic financial aid availability for credit and non-credit programs.
6. Assist with the Admissions front counter coverage and serve as back-up for appointment meetings with other AEM staff as needed.
7. Other duties as assigned.
B. Take the lead in identifying newly admitted students who would benefit from case management type programs, including CPA, CCCPDF and CCAMPIS; communicate regularly with student services colleagues to refer students.
C. Take the lead in identifying, outreaching, and onboarding Maryland youth who would benefit from the Foster Care Tuition Waiver; communicate regularly with student service colleagues to refer students.
D. As credentials and timing permit, serve on relevant student service teams related to safety and retention initiatives including the BIT/CARE team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Counseling preferred. Two years of professional admissions experience preferred. Experience working with a diverse group of students in a community college is preferred. Experience with Datatel Colleague is ideal.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask; proficient computer skills and a knowledge of student on-line systems; strong ability to work with others in a team environment in a collegiate manner; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to deal tactfully and effectually with prospective students, guidance counselors and HCC staff; and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
