Marketing Assistant/Intern

We are currently seeking to hire a hybrid, flexible Marketing Intern or Marketing Assistant to join our team. This motivated individual should be a self-starter with great communication skills and willing to take direction from the Owner/Principal Designer. This is envisioned as a full-time position, but we are flexible. The chosen candidate will have an excellent opportunity for growth into a full-time, permanent Marketing Assistant position.
 

WHO WE ARE: 

Our talented design|build team provides almost 30 years knowledge, skills, and experience to holistically provide sustainable landscape design|build service spanning a diversity of projects and sites in Northern Virginia. Our work merges ecology, art, and construction to create uniquely individual and thoughtful sustainable outdoor living spaces, while specializing in stormwater management and conservation landscaping with local native plants for a healthier Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
 

In the March/April 2023, Arlington Magazine Home Issue featured one of our favorite rain garden projects in the Rain Garden article (pages 93-94).  Several of our sustainable and stormwaterwise landscape projects have been selected to participate in the Arlington and Fairfax County Green Homes and Watershed-Friendly Garden Tours. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Visit and photograph project sites to build a robust project portfolio for sales and marketing campaigns, promotional materials, and presentations.

• Draft, revise, and publish content about landscape project stories, sustainability concepts, native ecology, invasive species watches, and other sustainable landscape industry-relevant topics to continue building the company’s social media sites and to grow online following.

• Craft compelling stories of our sustainable projects to continue building the company’s portfolio and make it easier to prepare for a sales presentation, build our online brand, create awareness for special events, etc. 

• Update and maintain company website hosted on Wordpress and appropriate plugins. 

• Send out monthly newsletters and targeted marketing through MailChimp. 

• Identify opportunities for marketing and getting company name out to potential clients (ex: contractor lists, nursery connections, conferences, etc). 

• Collect testimonials from clients.

• Shadow Owner/Principal Designer on initial sales consultations and follow ups.

• Other job-related responsibilities not specified, as needed. 
 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: 

• Is comfortable balancing working outdoors and in a remote home office on a regular basis. 

• Learns quickly and is passionate about sustainability, ecology, landscape design, stormwater best management practices, and conservation landscaping. 

• Has knowledge of Google Drive, graphical software (eg. Photoshop, Canva, or similar), video-editing software, MailChimp, and WordPress.

• Is experienced with posting marketing on a suite of social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn). 

• Has strong communication and customer service skills. 

• Has strong computer skills.

• Is capable of balancing multiple projects and tasks. 

• Background knowledge of native, exotic and invasive plant ID, stormwater management cost share programs and best management practices (BMPs), landscape construction preferred/competitive but not required. 
 

EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
Entry level position. Not required but pluses: A degree or certification in marketing/graphic design or similar field, experience in or knowledge of ecology/conservation/landscaping fields. 

 

COMPENSATION AND HOURS: $TBD based on experience/education. This is a hybrid remote/field position. Up to 40 hours/week, but flexibility needed for extra hours depending on what projects will require. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
