Intern, People Strategy

HHMI is focused on supporting and moving science forward in a variety of different ways ranging from conducting basic biomedical research, empowering educators, inspiring students, developing the next generation of scientists – even stretching into film and media production.  Our Headquarters is in the greater Washington, DC metro area and is home to over 300 employees with expertise in investments, communications, digital production, biomedical sciences, and everything in between.  The work housed here supports and augments the groundbreaking research conducted in HHMI labs across the nation.  As HHMI scientists continue to push boundaries in laboratories and classrooms, you can be sure that your contributions while working here are making a difference.

 

Summary:
HHMI’s People and Culture department is comprised of several dynamic teams that comprehensively support our employee population. The People Strategy team leads the effort in recruiting and hiring the talent needed to progress HHMI’s mission and continue our important work of moving science forward through research and operations.

 

As the Intern, People Strategy, you will join us for a robust 12-week learning opportunity and work alongside us on various projects, initiatives, and tasks related to recruitment, process improvement, and the employee experience.

 

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) internship that will report to our Headquarters office in Chevy Chase, MD three days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) and work remotely two days per week (Mondays and Fridays).  

 

If selected for an opportunity, interns are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the internship (12 weeks over the summer from mid-late May to early-mid August).

  • This position will be compensated at a rate of $17.65-$20.00/hour, commensurate with education, skills, and experience.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Learn how to craft engaging job postings for our careers page, job boards, and social media.
  • Learn how to screen resumes to identify suitable candidates for job opportunities.
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and coordinating logistics with candidates and hiring teams.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating the applicant tracking system (Workday).
  • Participate and support recruitment-related events such as career fairs, networking, workshops, etc.
  • Work with the team to identify areas of opportunity and improvement within our recruitment process.
  • Potentially support the development and design of our employee value proposition (EVP) and/or other People Strategy projects, based on team needs and bandwidth.  


What you bring:

  • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in the social sciences or another relevant field of study is required. Graduate students are also welcome to apply.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Enthusiasm to learn, grow professionally, and be mentored.
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and capacity for creative problem-solving.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
