Position Summary

The Accounting Intern supports the Accounting team with day-to-day administrative and operational tasks while gaining hands-on exposure to accounts payable processes in a construction environment. This internship is designed to introduce interns to invoice processing, vendor documentation, job cost awareness, and accounting system workflows under close supervision, while emphasizing accuracy, organization, and adherence to internal controls.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with accounts payable processes, including organizing and preparing vendor invoices for review and approval.
  • Support invoice data entry preparation by verifying required information, coding references, and documentation completeness (no independent posting).
  • Assist with vendor record maintenance, including organizing W-9s, COIs, and supporting documentation.
  • Help reconcile vendor statements by identifying discrepancies and escalating issues for review.
  • Support job cost awareness by assisting with invoice matching to projects and cost codes under supervision.
  • Assist with check run preparation tasks, including organizing payment documentation and maintaining audit trails.
  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting files and records.
    Assist with accounting system data cleanup and accuracy checks as directed.
  • Communicate professionally with internal teams regarding missing documentation or invoice status.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow established accounting controls and procedures at all times.
  • Support accounting projects and process documentation as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an Accounting, Finance, or related degree program.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to follow established procedures in a structured environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information responsibly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing a career in Accounts Payable or Construction Accounting.
  • Exposure to accounting coursework related to AP or bookkeeping.
  • Interest in learning accounting or ERP systems.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Program Development & Career Path

This internship is designed to provide meaningful exposure to accounting operations with a focus on accounts payable. High-performing interns may be considered for future AP Associate or AP Clerk roles based on performance, business needs, and graduation timing.
