Position Summary

The Human Resources Intern supports the HR department with day-to-day administrative and operational tasks while gaining hands-on exposure to human resources practices in a construction environment. This internship is designed to provide practical experience supporting onboarding, recruiting coordination, employee records management, and compliance activities under supervision, while maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with new hire onboarding processes, including preparing paperwork, orientation materials, and tracking completion of required documents. 
  • Support employee record maintenance, including filing, scanning, and organizing confidential personnel documents. 
  • Assist with data entry and audits to ensure accuracy of employee information under supervision. 
  • Help track employee training, certifications, and compliance requirements. - Maintain HR logs, rosters, and internal tracking spreadsheets. 
  • Assist with job posting coordination, resume organization, and candidate tracking. 
  • Support interview scheduling and candidate communications as directed by HR. 
  • Observe recruiting workflows to understand hiring processes and compliance requirements. 
  • Observe and assist with I-9 and E-Verify processing under supervision.  
  • Support coordination of pre-employment screenings, including background checks and drug testing. 
  • Learn how HR supports field employees and jobsite onboarding, including safety documentation and policy acknowledgments. 
  • Assist with preparation for internal audits and compliance reviews. 
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and compliance-related information. 
  • Support HR projects and process documentation as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a Human Resources, Business Administration, or related degree program. 
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Ability to work in an office environment and interact professionally with employees at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources. 
  • Exposure to HR coursework, recruiting, or administrative support roles. 
  • Interest in learning HRIS and applicant tracking systems. 
  • Comfort working in a construction or field-oriented environment. 
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Program Development & Career Path

This internship is designed to provide meaningful exposure to HR operations in a construction environment. Interns receive ongoing feedback and hands-on experience supporting onboarding, compliance, recruiting coordination, and employee support functions. High-performing interns may be considered for future HR Assistant or HR Generalist roles based on performance, business needs, and graduation timing.
