The Quartermaster (QM) will oversee all program logistics related to Outdoor Adventure Program

(OAP) activities. This includes but is not limited to equipment maintenance and repair, menu planning,

food ordering and stocking, food preparation and overseeing the Chocolate House (OAP's food storage

and prep facility) equipment.

 

Essential Job Functions

1. Food:

  • Liaison with Kitchen and Food service manager to order food and deliver to the "Chocolate House" (Outdoors department kitchen)
  • Ensure Food safety and handling
  • Maintain food stocks and rotate appropriately
  • Ensure security and safety of the “Chocolate House”
  • Prep basic food ingredients for campouts, out-of-camp trips, in-camp workshops and clinics, as well as other special camp activities.
  • Maintain “Chocolate House” facility ensuring a sanitize environment for food prep and meeting all necessary standards required by Health Department.
  • Oversee Cleaning and Sanitization of OAP food operations.

 

2. Equipment:

  • Maintain equipment inventories at campsites
  • Securing supplies requested of staff for OAP staff activities programs.
  • Fridge/freezer temperature checks

Assist in:

  • Maintaining sign out and sign in procedures of all equipment
  • Maintain equipment and rope logs as necessary
  • Ensure proper functionality of program gear
  • Maintaining the storeroom organization and gear labeling
  • Repair equipment as necessary
  • Ensure security of equipment storeroom

 

3. General:

  • Managing staff scheduled to assist in “Chocolate House” Maintanence.
  • Create and maintain daily tasks list for the "Chocolate House" and equipment storage.
  • Maintain overall appearance of common areas at "Timberlodge" (Outdoors staff housing) and other OAP buildings
  • Assist program staff with menu planning
  • Assist program staff to generate ideas for the teaching of fieldcraft skills to campers.
  • Work with Camp Louise (sister camp) in coordinating logistics, food and equipment on coed programs.
  • Perform other logistics as required

 

4. Relationships:

  • Meet with Dept. Head, on a daily basis, determining and coordinating program logistical needs
  • Maintain safe and appropriate relationships with campers at all times
  • Supervise and work closely with OAP staff, assigned to logistics, ensuring satisfactory completion of daily tasks.
  • Work directly with campers and/or OAP staff delivering outdoor cooking clinics
  • Asist in the delivery of Department Experience to C.I.T.’s
  • Assisting Dept. Head with assignment and evaluation of assigned OAP staff and C.I.T.’s
  • Work directly with Food service manager and Dining services staff.

 

Administrative:

  • Adherence to State of Maryland Health Department, Maryland Youth Camp Safety Act and the American Camp Association Standards.
  • Must pass a full background check and CPS clearance.
  • Ability to communicate via email / text / phone and other work phone applications.
  • Knowledge and experience with Kosher and Kosher style foods – PLUS
  • All camp employees will be required to complete staff training. “Pre-camp” additional training will be discussed as needed.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to use basic mathematics to add, subtract, multiply and divide and do calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Must be able to do medium work, exerting up to 50lbs. Occasionally, performing such activities as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, walking, pushing, lifting, etc.
  • Ability to stand for long periods throughout the day.

**Pre-camp additional remote/on ground training will be discussed as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of food safety and cooking techniques
  • Ability to work well with a multi-national team and a diverse range of campers
  • SERV safe Certified - PLUS
  • Camp experience – PLUS

Additional information and compensation:

  • Seasonal pay Negotiable based on relevant experience.
  • This is a live on-site position and cannot be performed remotely.
  • Room and Board provided at our beautiful camp, for the duration of the position.
  • Weekly time off build-into schedule.
  • All Meals Provided, 7 days/week
