Position Overview
Charles P. Johnson & Associates, Inc. (CPJ) is seeking a motivated and dependable Summer Intern to support environmental and stormwater inspection efforts in our Frederick, Maryland office. This field‑based internship offers hands‑on experience working alongside experienced environmental professionals on active projects, providing real‑world exposure to stormwater infrastructure, environmental assessments, and natural resource fieldwork.

About the Frederick Office
CPJ’s Frederick office serves as the company’s primary hub for field inspections and environmental assessments. Interns will be part of a collaborative team supporting stormwater and environmental specialists on projects for public and private sector clients throughout the region.

Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with above‑ground and below‑ground stormwater infrastructure inspections
- Support the maintenance and organization of inspection documentation
- Participate in natural resource field inventories, delineations, and environmental assessments
- Assist other CPJ divisions with field work as needed (e.g., stormwater inspections, stream restoration monitoring, field measurements)
- Perform additional tasks that support daily office and field operations
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current enrollment in or completion of college‑level coursework in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related field preferred
- Willingness and ability to work primarily in outdoor, field‑based settings
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, uneven terrain)
- Ability to walk over rough or uneven surfaces and work near construction activities and machinery
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, stoop, reach, and lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds
