History / Art History Intern
The Delaplaine Arts Center is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student or recent graduate interested in public history, art history, and/or museum studies to join our team as an intern in the summer of 2026.
About the Delaplaine
The Delaplaine Arts Center is an active non-profit visual arts center in downtown Frederick, Maryland, providing the region with educational opportunities and experiences in the visual arts through classes, exhibitions, and programs. Our vision is “Everyone deserves art!”
Objectives
The selected intern will develop an exhibit giving an overview of the history of art in the Frederick area based on existing and original research. This exhibit will consist of panels hung in one of the Delaplaine’s stairwells, so it will not include objects.
The intern will gain experience writing exhibit text and designing exhibit panels for a general audience and will work under the direct supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, with assistance from the Director of Programs.
Schedule and Stipend
The intern will work a total of 100 hours from June to July, about twelve to thirteen hours per week. The schedule can be flexible but must take place during the Community Engagement Manager’s regular working hours. This is an in-person internship, with the possibility of some work-from-home hours.
The intern will receive $15/hour, paid every two weeks, for a total of $1,500.
Requirements
The successful applicant will be an undergraduate or graduate student or recent graduate in the field of history, public history, art history, museum studies, or a related field, and have reliable transportation to The Delaplaine Arts Center.
