Estimating Intern
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Estimating Intern to support our estimating and sales engineering teams in preparing proposals for commercial HVAC equipment projects. This role offers hands-on exposure to the commercial construction bidding process, including reviewing mechanical plans, performing quantity takeoffs, and assisting in equipment selections for HVAC systems.
This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students pursuing careers in mechanical engineering or HVAC systems design to gain practical experience within the mechanical contracting and manufacturer’s representative industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the estimating team in reviewing mechanical plans and specifications for commercial construction projects
- Support HVAC equipment takeoffs and documentation for bidding purposes
- Help prepare project estimates and proposal documentation
- Assist with equipment selections using manufacturer selection software and engineering tools
- Maintain organized project files and bid tracking information
- Coordinate with sales engineers and estimators to gather pricing and technical information
- Assist with follow-up on bids and customer inquiries when needed
- Participate in internal training on HVAC equipment, systems, and applications
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Interest in commercial HVAC systems and construction estimating
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications (preferred but not required)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic office software
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
