Dimensional Calibration & Traceability Researcher
Dimensional Calibration & Traceability Researcher
PREP0004132
Project Description:
Dimensional Calibration Development/Dimensional Calibration Traceability. The candidate will use their expertise to support gauge block and other dimensional calibration services at NIST. This will require the candidate to maintain NIST dimensional reference masters and, when appropriate, perform measurements for internal research efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Open, clean, and distribute customer gages to NIST technical professionals for calibration
- Perform measurements of NIST reference gauge blocks masters and compare them to historical measurements, under supervision
- Acquire, calibrate, and place into service, with supervision, reference gage block masters
- Learn and perform gage block measurements using optical interferometry
Desired Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen preferred
- Bachelor's in Science or Engineering
- 11 months of relevant experience
- Familiarity with NIST’s gauge block calibration methods and procedures
- Familiarity with NIST’s quality system requirements
Other Details:
- Full-time: the participant is expected to work 40 hours a week
- Location: the participant will work at the NIST Gaithersburg Campus.
- Duration: this is expected to be a one-year position. Extensions are sometimes granted depending on the availability of funds.
