Mid-Level Landscape Architect Location: Laurel, MD
About Kim Engineering, Inc. (KIM): Kim Engineering, Inc. (KIM) is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm specializing in civil engineering, landscape architecture, geotechnical engineering, surveying, construction materials testing & inspections and subsurface utility engineering.
Position Summary: KIM is seeking a Mid-Level Landscape Architect to join our Laurel, MD office. The ideal candidate will have solid technical and design experience, strong collaboration skills, and a passion for high-quality, sustainable design solutions. This role will support senior staff while independently managing portions of projects from concept through construction documents.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing land planning and engineering documents for feasibility studies, preliminary plans, site plans, landscape plans, forest conservation, and site grading.
- Perform site evaluations, research existing site information, and assist with reports and cost estimates.
- Apply knowledge of local jurisdiction zoning, codes, and design manuals.
- Prepare presentation materials and assist with proposals and responses to RFPs.
- Participate in client, design team, and agency meetings to support project design and review processes.
- Coordinate tasks with civil engineering and landscape staff, providing input and quality checks.
- Contribute to staff development through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Represent KIM at occasional professional events or organizational meetings.
- Conduct occasional fieldwork such as tree surveys and site inspections.
Qualifications:
- BS or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture.
- Licensed Landscape Architect or actively pursuing licensure.
- 4–7 years of professional design experience in site/civil projects.
- Familiarity with local permitting, entitlement, and design processes.
Skills/Competencies:
- Proficiency in landscape architecture and land planning, including plant materials, site grading, and zoning.
- Strong graphic and technical design skills with proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to write and edit technical reports, memorandums, and permit documents.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance multiple project assignments.
- Ability to perform occasional fieldwork in outdoor conditions as part of project requirements.
