Python Game-Development Instructor

-Who We Are Looking For 
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Python instructor to teach middle school students the fundamentals of Python programming. This course covers an introduction to game development using Python and pygame. You, the instructor, have been tasked with teaching the students the basics of Python and pygame in the context of game development. Participants will be expanding their Python skills to build out Hangman followed by Astroids.
 

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Python, game development experience, excellent communication skills, and a talent for breaking down complex concepts into engaging lessons for teen learners.​​

Compensation
Hourly Rate + Mileage Reimbursement
Mileage reimbursement is calculated as follows: (MilesTraveled − 20) × $0.67

Montgomery County Library - Wheaton Branch

  • June 25 | 2:30pm - 4:30pm ET | Python Game Dev 201
  • July 23 | 2:30pm - 4:30pm ET | Python Game Dev 202
  • August 20 | 2:30pm - 4:30pm ET | Python Game Dev 203
     

Note: preference to availability for all events in the series

Responsibilities

Preparation: Familiarize yourself with course content, including slides, lecture notes, and PyGame resources.

Instruction: Teach Python concepts clearly and effectively, incorporating interactive activities

Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Project Support: Guide students through hands-on coding projects, offering support and feedback to help them succeed.
 

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Python programming
  • Computer Science Major or similar field
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm for creating a fun and educational experience
  • Attention to detail and professionalism
  • Confidence in working with participants
  • Able to represent themselves and the company professionally​

Bonus

  • Experience teaching coding to youth
  • Experienced working with elementary or middle school-aged learners

  • Participating in the activity
  • Connecting to a projector / screen
  • Presenting slides
  • Running the Chrome Browser
  • Using PyGame

Mileage 
Mileage is reimbursed at the rate of 67¢ per mile for all miles traveled above 20. Mileage is calculated from the distance Google Maps (https://maps.google.com) shows, with a reasonable variance for detours due to road or traffic conditions. Mileage reimbursement is calculated as follows: (MilesTraveled − 20) × $0.67
