Entry Level Mechatronics Engineer – Robot Electronics Specialization

Position: Entry-Level Mechatronics Engineer – Robot Electronics Specialization 

We are looking for an exceptional, high-potential engineers to join the elite team at Temple Allen Industries in Rockville, MD as an Entry-Level Mechatronics Engineer – Robot Electronics Specialization . This role is intended for someone who is eager to apply their theoretical knowledge to the real world, to bring their own skillsets and personal experiences to generating electrical designs that expand available features and deployments, emphasize ease of assembly, simplicity, robustness, and improves the overall experience of operating an EMMA system.

You operate across the full electrical design process from designing PCBs, cable harnesses, and simulating their behaviors, to testing and validating that the design delivered on its requirements and creating the assembly instructions and procedures. You will be working with microcontrollers, both in terms of their electrical integration requirements and in the development of firmware for them. You should be confident in your ability to wire electronic circuits in a safe and reliable manner. In close collaboration with mechanical, perception, and systems engineers, you will contribute to a holistic design process that ensures your controls architecture integrates seamlessly into EMMA’s reactive automation methodology, supporting advanced industrial automation systems that combine precision mechanical and pneumatic tooling with robust embedded control. 

 

Requirements

The following items are typically required for an individual accepting the responsibilities of this position:

BS or MS in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or closely related field

  • Demonstrated practical experience through university coursework, clubs, internships, or capstone projects involving the design and assembly of robotic, automated, or electromechanical systems
  • Ability to analyze and understand the behavior of complex circuits and signals with oscilloscope and multimeter.
  • Understanding of battery charging intricacies (i.e. battery charging curves)
  • Ability to design experiments to collect data from various sensors – encoders, potentiometers, etc.
  • Understanding of Signal Integrity and Noise in Robot Sensors
  • Familiarity with Power Circuitry Design and Part Selection
  • Experience & proficiency with circuit design software, preferably KiCAD 
  • Experience with simulation of advanced circuits (e.g. LTSpice)
  • Experience & proficiency working with Excel
  • Knowledge of what a Bill of Material is
  • Experience with assembly work, particularly electrical components
  • Experience working with or generating assembly instructions
  • Experience with technical writing

 

Preferred Experience 

  • Experience with the electrical integration of microcontrollers into custom robotic solutions.
  • Experience with writing code for microcontrollers.
  • Experience with CAN Network Setup and Wiring.
  • Experience with I2C Sensor Communication.
  • Experience generating drawings for specifying cable harness manufacturing.
  • Exposure to or experience with pneumatics 
  • Experience using a Bill of Material (BoM)
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques and methods
  • Basic understanding of control systems and electrical component integration
  • Experience with simulation tools (ROS, ROS2, etc.)

 

Expectations

  • The following items are expected tasks an individual accepting this position will be undertaking and completing: 
  • Design electrical circuits and select electrical components to be used on product systems and prototyping
  • Design custom PCBs to improve the serviceability, cost, and overall effectiveness of the electrical system on a Smart Automation EMMA
  • Integrate electrical components into the system, specifically microcontrollers
  • Debug and troubleshoot electrical circuitry
  • Create testing plans to validate a given design successfully meets its requirements
  • Carry out testing and validation of discrete parts and circuit elements, as well as the overall circuit
  • Maintain the appropriate electrical documentation (schematics) for a given design
  • Support and potentially lead efforts for certification, including Hazardous Location Certification
  • Work directly with a multi-disciplinary engineering team and participate in design discussions to generate the overall system requirements
  • Generate and maintain Bills of Material for electrical subassemblies
  • Participate in and provide engineering support for electrical assembly of prototype and product systems

Pay Range

Annual Salary: $80,000 – $95,000 

The actual compensation offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including location, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business needs.
