The Division of Intramural Research, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), located in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a part-time Staff Clinician (High Scarcity – HS), Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon, to support the Otolaryngology-Head Neck Surgery Service in its work providing clinical care, conducting research, and promoting training. The Staff Clinician will support the Chief of the Otolaryngology Service in the oversight and delivery of clinical care, clinical research operations, patient safety activities, trainee education, and interdisciplinary research collaborations within the NIDCD Clinical Research Program. The NIDCD clinical research mission areas include normal function and disorders of the head and neck affecting hearing, balance, paranasal sinuses, smell, taste, voice, speech, and language.
The responsibilities of the Staff Clinician include:
- Direct clinical care, providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery consultation and treatment for patients enrolled in NIDCD and other Institute and Center protocols at the NIH Clinical Center.
- Coordinating clinical care with other medical practitioners providing care to patients on the Otolaryngology Service
- Supporting the Chief in managing the clinical and research operations of the Otolaryngology Service, including such activities as scheduling and coordination of research and care activities, assisting in monitoring compliance with NIH Clinical Center policies, helping develop standard operating procedures, clinical workflows, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participating in the supervision and teaching of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees rotating through the clinical service.

Preference will be given to candidates with broad experience across all subspecialty areas of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and whose approaches complement those of our existing programs in clinical and translational research, including our recently established Smell and Taste Center.
The NIDCD offers an excellent working environment, including a state-of-the-art clinic, testing capabilities, and inpatient units in the NIH Clinical Center, and numerous opportunities for collaboration. The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of scientists and clinicians at the forefront of research on communication disorders.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O., and board-eligibility or board certification in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is highly preferred.
- A record of scholarly clinical publications and evidence of national recognition is desired.
- A record of teaching and/or leading clinical education or training programs is also desired.
Salary is commensurate with training and relevant research experience. A full Civil Service package of benefits(including retirement, health, life, and long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) is available for this position. Relocation expenses are not being offered. Appointees may be a US citizen, Legal Permanent Resident or non-US citizen who are eligible for a valid work authorization.
*This position is part time and scheduled for one day per week.*
