As a Writer-Editor, you will:

  • Prepare speeches and written materials that clearly and effectively demonstrate the organization's impact, priorities, and outcomes.
  • Review related health studies and research; works with organizational data to demonstrate impact and create relevant messaging.
  • Gather and coordinate information across the organization, regularly consulting with the Director and other SAMHSA leaders to verify the accuracy of content for final communication products.
  • Serve as subject matter expert writer and editor for executive communications by reviewing written materials for editorial quality and consistency, ensuring compliance with SAMHSA writing style, format, and content requirements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:
 

  • Developing and editing executive-level communications, including speeches, briefing materials, presentations, and digital content related to mental health and/or behavioral health initiatives.
  • Analyzing and translating complex health policies, programs, and research into clear, concise messaging for leadership, stakeholders, and public audiences.
  • Coordinating with senior officials, program staff, and external partners to gather, verify, and synthesize information supporting priorities and strategic communications.
  • Reviewing and managing communication products for editorial quality and plain language for consistency and alignment.
