IT Specialist/Computer Assistance ARS NEA BARC (Beltsville, MD) Spring 2025
Job Description
- Image machines
- Work with local and remote users to install, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
- Assist with support tickets within Remedy system
- Work with BARC IT to excess equipment, assist facilities and customers with upcoming transition to Lumens network.
- Work amongst NEA IT Specialists to complete various projects
- Complete vulnerability requests per Cyber - under initial supervision with NEA IT Team Lead and BARC IT
- Work with BARC IT to complete various data calls and reports, as required.
Duties include:
1. Work with BARC IT to learn how to set up and configure machines at a fast-paced environment. Will become familiar with automated tools to support efficiency.
2. Learn to use Enterprise tools such as Active Directory, DameWare, and Remedy to support customers
3. Work with IT and Beltsville research units to support backlog of obsolete equipment throughout the facilities
4. Work with BARC IT to support upcoming transition to Lumens network
5. Will work with NEA IT Team Lead and other NEA IT Specialists to complete various data calls, reports, vulnerability remediation requests, and various other projects.
Location: Beltsville, MD Beltsville Agricultural Research Center : USDA ARS
Please NOTE: This internship is located in Beltsville, MD and requires interns to do work in-person. This position is limited to local commuting area candidate only (within 50 miles radius).
Hours per week: Flexible
(Minimum 20 hours Maximum 40 hours per week)

- Computer Science
Education Level:
- Undergraduate students
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Windows OS, Office 365, willing to learn, and willing to support customers remotely is preferred.
- Experience with setting up machines, printers, mobile devices, and proficiency with working in a multi-task and high paced environment is a plus.
- Prior work with Active Directory, remote support tools, PowerBI, Excel spreadsheets, and reporting is a plus
Supervision:
- Interns will report to ARS NEA BARC.
- Interns will receive guidance and feedback from supervisor daily, weekly, or as needed.
- Interns formal evaluation are completed at the following segments of the internship session, Mid-term and Final Performance Evaluation.
