Salary

$20.00 per hour, maximum of 20 hours per week 

Position Summary

The Intern, People & Culture will support APHL's People & Culture (P&C) department in fostering a positive and engaging workplace environment. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to assist with various initiatives in employment engagement, development, and education. The Intern will gain practical experience in HR-related projects and contribute to the department’s mission of promoting a dynamic and inclusive organizational culture. 

This is a remote-friendly position that requires the employee to reside within the DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia area. Occasional in-person attendance at APHL Headquarters in Bethesda, MD is required, typically up to 4 or more times a year. Some of these on-site requirements may be requested on short notice. 

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the planning and execution of employee engagement initiatives, projects, events, and programs.
  • Assists in supporting the onboarding process for new hires, including preparation of materials and coordination of orientation activities, as well as components of the 90-day process, including tasks related to performance management and employee evaluations.
  • Supports various aspects of talent acquisition and staff education within the department.
  • Helps with the development and updating of resources and training materials.
  • Collaborates with other P&C team members to facilitate retreats for various teams and departments, including preparation and coordination of activities.
  • Collects and analyzes employee feedback and survey data as well as additional research as needed to support organizational development strategies.
  • Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling, communication, and tracking project progress.
  • Participates in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project planning efforts.
  • Performs additional duties as needed to support the department, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (in progress or recently completed) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a professional office or team-oriented environment preferred (internships or part-time roles acceptable).
  • Exposure to HR tools, survey platforms, or project management tools is an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge

  • Understanding of basic HR concepts, such as employee engagement, onboarding, and organizational culture.
  • Familiarity with survey tools, data collection methods, or employee feedback mechanisms.

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear and professional interaction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
  • Experience with SharePoint for document management, collaboration, and information sharing is a plus.
  • Research and analytical skills for collecting and summarizing data.
  • Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects efficiently.

APHL Weeks:

APHL Week is a Conference/Convention that is held at the APHL Home Office Bethesda, MD. This event is mandatory for all employees to attend. Travel and lodging will be reimbursed by APHL.

Please Note: Reimbursement for travel and lodging may not be possible for employees that are local to the APHL Home Office.
