Position Opening:
Academic Advisor
Academic Advisor, full-time, serves as the primary point of supporting our study aboard program and has overall responsibility for advising international students in WB’s main service areas.
Work Location: Sterling, VA/ Remote
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Advising & Student Success

Individualized Guidance
- Advise high school and undergraduate students in developing customized academic plans aligned with their skills, goals, and career aspirations.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings to assess student progress and adjust plans as needed.
- Interpret and enforce academic policies regarding degree requirements, course scheduling, and program compliance.

Proactive Support
- Monitor student performance and initiate early intervention strategies for at-risk students.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
- Resolve academic concerns related to course selection, degree progression, and transfer credits.
2. Retention & Student Engagement
- Develop and implement retention strategies to improve student persistence and graduation rates.
- Organize workshops and programming to enhance student success (e.g., study skills, time management).
3. Long-Term Academic Strategy Development
- Design customized 1-2 year roadmaps for university/graduate school applicants, aligning coursework, extracurriculars, and skill-building with target programs’ admissions criteria.
- Conduct strength assessments (academic profile, research/internship experience, leadership potential) to identify competitive advantages and gaps.
- Coordinate with teachers/counselors to curate recommendation letter strategies tailored to institutional priorities (e.g., STEM vs. liberal arts focus).
- Provide timeline management for standardized testing (SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT), application milestones, and scholarship deadlines.
4. Outreach & Partnership Development
- Represent the institution at college fairs, K-12 schools, and community events.
- Deliver information sessions for prospective students and families.
- Build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create internship/mentorship opportunities.
5. Academic Services & Event Coordination
- Administer placement tests, comprehensive exams, and final project evaluations.
- Facilitate events with external partners.
Salary and Benefit:
The position will offer H1B sponsorship and green card sponsorship. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. For a fresh graduate, there are three months of non-paid probation time with the company to see the potential of the candidate. For other candidates with prior working experience, there are also three months probation period for the manager to see the performance.
