POSITION TITLE | SW Cyber Academy Learning Support (K-12) Teacher (In-Person position)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month Professional Faculty Position (191 days)
Salary and benefits as negotiated through the Collective Bargaining Agreement
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree with Valid PA certification in 9231 Special Education PK-12
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Learning Support teacher will be home based at the MS and will work with all of the faculty at the MS in addition to those faculty and administrators who work with students enrolled in the SW Cyber Academy. This would include building and district administrators, classroom teachers, and other professional and support staff as assigned
JOB SUMMARY/GOAL:
The learning support teacher is tasked to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that caters to individual student needs and promotes success in both Face to Face and virtual environments. The teacher creates individualized education plans suited to differentiate and personalize learning for each student within the SW Cyber Academy program. The teacher would use effective tools to assess and monitor student progress. In the Face to Face setting, the teacher will provide ongoing support to special education students through specially designed instruction as defined.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Direct Student Support (Face-to-Face)
- Teaching courses or sections specifically designed for middle school special education students.
- Implementing appropriate interventions and providing specially designed instruction to students, as outlined in their IEPs.
IEP Management & Compliance (Primarily Virtual)

IEP Development & Meetings:
- Preparing for and facilitating IEP meetings for all students on their caseload. This includes:
- Drafting and preparing all necessary special education documents.
- Contacting and scheduling all attendees for IEP meetings.
- Serving as the special education teacher, leading IEP meetings, and presenting draft documents to the IEP team.

IEP Implementation & Monitoring: Ensuring the effective implementation of each special education student's IEP. This encompasses:
- Instruction

Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintaining a special education roster.
- Monitoring the compliance of all special education documents.
- Adhering to all special education timelines.
Student Progress & Communication (Hybrid)

Student Progress:
- Monitoring and evaluating student progress to determine appropriate course pacing. (Virtual)
- Assigning live interventions as necessary. (Virtual)

Communication & Collaboration:
- Communicating with families on a regular basis. (Virtual)
- Coordinating with Cyber Academy administration and the Cyber Academy counselor regarding students.
- Maintaining regular office hours and monitoring student work. (Virtual)
Assessment & Other Duties (Hybrid)
- Proctoring state and local assessments (both virtually and face-to-face).
- Attending monthly South Western Cyber Academy meetings (for student and course progress updates).
- Serving in any faculty role or responsibility as assigned by building and district administration.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KSA):
Knowledge:
- Special Education: Strong knowledge of special education law, regulations, and best practices in Pennsylvania.
- Curriculum Standards: Familiarity with relevant Pennsylvania academic standards and curriculum frameworks for various grade levels.
- Differentiated Instruction: Expertise in designing and implementing differentiated lessons tailored to individual student needs.
- Data Analysis: Skills in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to inform instruction and measure progress.

- Instructional Delivery: Skillful in delivering engaging and effective lessons adapted to various learning styles.

Able to hear with 40 decibel loss maximum and see with acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of at least 20 feet normal depth perception, field of vision and accommodation. Must be able to reach above and below the waist, walk and use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects. Requires use of both hands for repetitive motion. Some bending and twisting of the body required. Lifts/carries supplies and papers weighing no more than 40 lbs. Typical office environment with the ability to sit eighty percent (80%) of workday.
