What I wish was different
As a recreation assistant we are limited in the care we give our resident/patients. With that being said, you are almost strictly limited to only taking them to/from activities, maybe helping them hang a jacket up in their room and giving them water after an activity a few times. You'll want to take care of them, residents will as to go to the bathroom, or be fed, or even to change a shirt they got dirty during a painting session. However you are not an aid or a nurse and you cannot do these things for them and I wish we had the qualifications to be able to do this. The residents love and trust their activity assistants at the Bridgeville Rehab and they are comfortable asking for help from us. It's hard to say no, but you have to.
